The final resting place of Vermont's colorful Hero of Ticonderoga

It took almost 100 years for Burlington to erect a monument to her most famous (and most controversial) figure. Nonetheless, in 1873 this monument was erected at the site of the burial place of the Revolutionary war hero. The eight-foot high statue was modeled by Peter Stephenson and cut in Carrara, Italy. The shaft is some forty-two feet high. Located in beautiful Green Mount Cemetery, the memorial to one of Vermont's most famous sons towers above the other ancient grave markers at the crown of a large hill overlooking Winooski.
